Sigma Serves Children : Robbie Page Memorial

The Robbie Page Memorial was launched in 1951 in memory of Robbie Page.  Robbie was the son of Robertson and Mary Hastings Holloway, a former president of Tri-Sigma, who passed away from bulbar polio in Children's Hospital located in Boston.  Robbie was very interested in helping others and his untimely death prompted his parents to establish this fund for polio research.  Tri-Sigma has been loyally dedicated to this fund while plans were being formulated from the very early days.  A few weeks after his death, the fund was launced and able to contribute to the research.

The Robbie Page Memorial has grown in dollars and deeds through the years.  The programming funded by this memorial started with the Salk Vaccine Trials and now is fully dedicated to Play Therapy for hospitalized children.  The Robbie Page Memorial is present in two main locations, The North Carolina Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill and Children's Medical Center of Dallas Texas.

National Recognition of the sorority's accomplishments for children in health care settings through the memorial was given in 1980.  The Plaque given said "A national sorority accepted a challenge of dealing with an issue that did not command national attention.  They focused on a need that could not be computed into an x and y formula.  They focused on the emotional needs of hospitalized children.  Now, more than ever, we can appreciate what support from such an organization means."

The first three chairmen of the Memorial were Norma Caton Kitchen, Zeta, Evelyn Bone Bennett, Kappa, and our own Omicron alumni, Lucille Amesse Morrison.  The leadership displayed by these women and the women to follow in their footsteps allowed for the Robbie Page Memorial to prosper and succeed.

Tri-Sigma has met many challenges of serving children and continue to meet the commitment to serve children. Money obtained to support Sigma Sigma Sigma play therapy projects solely come from donations from collegiate  and alumnae chapters and memorials made by chapters and individuals.
